Covid-19 in Euskadi and Catalunya: dealing with a pandemic from a biostatistical perspective
The SARS-CoV-2 infection, which began in December 2019, became a global pandemic of unpredictable consequences constituting a threat to Public Health. The first wave hit health systems hard, generating great uncertainty as to the nature of the disease and its prognosis. In order to combat the disease, a variety of attempts have been made since the beginning of the pandemic to understand the pathophysiology of the infection.
In collaboration with health care managers, clinicians and epidemiologists, mathematicians, statisticians and computer scientists have worked on the development of methodological proposals and predictive models to help understand the evolution of the pandemic, the risk factors and the differences between the different waves, among others, in order to provide crucial perspectives for care services and develop appropriate health policies.
The aim of this workshop is to present some of the most relevant advances made by researchers from Catalonia and the Basque Country, in order to seek synergies and future collaborations in the fight against the pandemic.
