ERCOM (European Research Centres on Mathematics), is a Committee of the EMS (European Mathematical Society) that is formed by the most relevant European research centres in mathematics. ERCOM was founded in 1997, at a meeting held at one of its centres, the CIRM in Marseille, and it was the mathematician Ole Barndorff-Nielsen who acted as founding president until 2002.
ERCOM is a discussion forum where the directors of the member centres meet to comment on the situation of mathematics in Europe, seek synergies and establish common strategies. One of the focuses is to promote the training of researchers.
ERCOM meets annually, in different places in Europe, and also takes advantage of major events such as the MSI or the European Mathematics Congresses to exchange views.
